Beschreibung
This book is a tribute to the story of the vanishing phenomenon of exceptional women from the Kopanice region—and also men, one of whom was a Catholic priest for part of his life. In the texts about the Žítkov goddesses, published in recent years, where lesbian women wander in a trance among Nazis, secret police, and drunks, he has become an almost fictional character. In reality, the writings of Josef Hofer, published in 1913, in which he describes 'extremely interesting, real cases of how cunning village women become goddesses or witches,' are an immensely valuable testimony. Without his insights, which form the historical basis of this book, the publications of today's authors, which have attracted well-deserved attention to the region, would undoubtedly not have emerged. The Moravian Kopanice consists of several picturesque valleys and dramatically shaped hills. As the example of the goddesses—whisperers shows, accepting responsibility and being a wise woman, a folk healer, and a rural shaman means taking on a lifelong burden and sacrificing oneself for others. Therefore, today the Žítkov goddesses, carriers of folk magic residing in the mystical space of the Moravian borderlands, have no successors. This publication, which brings the Žítkov myth closer in all its aspects, explains why.
