Tibetské nebe, peklo, ráj – Erml Richard (2007)

After twelve years, the author of the intimate travelogue Zuzanka and the Tibetan Mountains returns to the 'scene of the crime.' The titular character of the first book has since become a respected Tibetologist and a sought-after guide in Tibet, while the author has remained faithful to theater criticism — much to the delight of many actors and directors. The reason for their second joint trip to Tibet was the filming of a feature documentary based on the author's script, focusing on death and dying, a theme that Tibetan culture — unlike our own — can approach with an openness that is hard for us to imagine. Thus, not only a film was created, but also a provocative travel report from the filming process in Nepal and Tibet. Against the backdrop of the grand theme of death unfolds a rather comic-tragic story of human relationships. In the ironic observation of how 'unspiritually' and trivially a spiritual film can be born, many will recognize themselves among those who learn to get along with other participants under the challenging conditions of trips to exotic countries. Those interested in Tibet will surely be satisfied with the guiding commentary from Zuzana Ondomišiová from the filming locations, which concluded in the landscape of western Tibet beneath the mystical Mount Kailash.
