Beschreibung
The Peninsular War is the name of the long-standing conflict of the Napoleonic Wars that raged in Spain and Portugal from 1807 to 1814 and contributed significantly to Napoleon's downfall. Why did the Emperor of the French steal the Spanish crown, provoking the hatred of the majority of Spaniards and Portuguese, and why could he not win the war even though the French were victorious in most battles? How did the colorful struggle unfold, in which British soldiers under the command of Arthur Wellesley, the future Duke of Wellington, became increasingly involved? All of this is described based on contemporary sources in the second and final volume of a two-part project by a well-known Napoleonic author, in which we will go through battles such as Bussaco, Fuentes de Onoro, Salamanca, and Vitoria, culminating in the last battle of this war, fought at French Toulouse.
