The Czech queen Blanka of Valois, the first wife of Charles IV, died at the age of thirty-two. Charles's second wife, Anna of Falck, died at twenty-three. The third emperor's wife, Anna of Silesia, also died at the age of twenty-three. Charles IV's fourth wife, Elisabeth of Pomerania, outlived her husband by several years, but the circumstances surrounding the deaths of all these women are shrouded in strange ambiguities.
