Beschreibung

Three-quarters of a century after the death of the Sun King, the flame of the corsair war was dwindling. Then the revolution broke out, and the corsair war flared up again. However, it was fought under entirely different conditions. The ships of the corsairs of the French Revolution did not exceed the size of a frigate, and often they were small boats where the cannons could be counted on one's fingers. The Revolutionary Convention, the Directory, Bonaparte, and Napoleon did not provide the corsair captains with what their predecessor Louis XIV had offered. This corsair war also had many heroes. The author of Corsairs of the Sun King tells the story of the legendary Robert Surcouf and the forgotten captains Broquant, Souvilla, Dutertra, and dozens of others. He utilizes, similar to the first volume of Corsair Wars, period memoirs and a number of other documents. He does not overlook the connections with the fates of the French naval forces before and during the revolution. Thus, great battles come to life on the pages of the book...
