Beschreibung
The monograph by leading experts summarizes current knowledge on the treatment of metastatic kidney tumors. The significance of the monograph is underscored by the fact that the Czech Republic holds an unflattering first place in the world for the incidence of this disease. In the population of the Czech Republic, renal carcinoma represents the fifth (in men) and seventh (in women) most common malignancy. The first two chapters of the publication provide a basic theoretical summary, i.e., an overview of essential epidemiological data and information from the National Oncology Registry database, followed by a brief review from a pathologist's perspective. Professor Marko Babjuk's chapter focuses on surgical treatment for metastatic kidney tumors. The importance of nephrectomy and surgical treatment of metastases is discussed in relation to new methods of systemic therapy, as well as the possibilities for coordinating individual therapeutic modalities. The concluding chapter by Professor Luboš Petruželka offers a comprehensive current view on new options for systemic treatment of kidney cancer, from standard cytokines to targeted molecular biological therapy, along with brief information on new drugs in clinical trials.
