Česká kardiologie a kardiologové - Črty z historie – Fejfar Zdeněk (2011)

From the introduction by Doc. MUDr. Jaromír Hradec, CSc.: The original project of the book was much more modest. It contained only facts and personal memories gathered by Prof. Fejfar. However, during the preparation of the manuscript, Prof. Fejfar, with his characteristic thoroughness, carefully listened to the remarks and comments of many cardiologists. Gradually, he supplemented, corrected, and clarified. In the end, he decided to ask several other leading experts and eyewitnesses to write chapters. Prof. B. Hučín on the history of Czech cardiac surgery, Prof. M. Šamánek on the history of pediatric cardiology in the Czech Republic, Dr. J. Linhart and Doc. I. Přerovský on the history of Czech angiography, Prof. B. Ošťádal and Prof. P. Bravený on the history of Czech experimental and developmental cardiology. Finally, with Dr. P. Jeri, they added short biographies of a total of 22 Czech cardiologists and one pediatric cardiac surgeon who have spread and continue to spread the good reputation of Czech cardiology abroad. The original text thus grew to double its size, and the book gained significant complexity. In my opinion, the subtitle of the book, 'Sketches from History,' is very modest. I am convinced that this book will please most of our cardiologists and that they will read it with interest, just as I read its manuscript with interest and pleasure.
