Beschreibung
The memoir prose of translator and publicist Ján Rozner was published in Slovakia in 2009 and immediately became the Slovak Book of the Year. The formal framework consists of memories of events from the time between the death and burial of his wife Zora Jesenská in 1972. Both Rozner and Jesenská were among the banned authors after 1968. The Husák regime feared Jesenská's funeral and resorted to massive intimidation of people and absurd practices. However, the scope is broader; the book, with the character of a novel, is an authentic account of the people, events, and conditions of that time, about the cultural, social, and political circumstances in Slovakia at the beginning of normalization.
