A collection of film reviews published between 2004 and 2011 in the magazine Prostor is supplemented with several previously unpublished texts. The author focuses on works belonging to the golden fund of cinematography (by Antonioni, Tarkovsky, or Saura) as well as contemporary productions, selecting not only films by renowned directors (Lynch, Spielberg, von Trier, Scott, Cronenberg, Kolski, Kim Ki-duk, Wong Kar-wai) but also films from lesser-known cinematographies, such as Georgian, Iranian, or Vietnamese. She approaches film works from a hermeneutic perspective and interprets them based on the archetypal psychology of C. G. Jung. She does not strive for an 'objectively scientific' filmological analysis but looks at film images in a way that brings forth Jung's concept of 'experienced reality.' The film, whose symbolic function connects the unique with the general, is understood in terms of its therapeutic effect on the psyche, thereby reaching deeper layers of meaning. Zdena Mejzlíková is a Jungian-oriented psychologist, editor, and essayist.
