ABOUT QUATRAIN
"You can't just write little things!" one of my poet friends reproached me. At that moment, I decided to write a poem or something of the sort to prove to him, and to myself, that I could do it too.
I prepared for the poem for so long that I ended up writing a quatrain. So again, little things. Snapshots. Lyrical epigrams. And why not? Why couldn't a quatrain be a fragment in which the world is reflected? It’s enough to master the art of brevity and hints. And that is precisely the hardest part.
A quatrain is an accord that sounds and fades so quickly that the distracted reader's imagination may not even register it. There are themes for which a quatrain seems too tight. Many times I succumbed to the temptation to add another stanza – and then I crossed it out. Or I left it and crossed out the first one. Or crossed out both and wrote a third. It seems to me that I crossed out more than I wrote. But something remained. And from that, the book I Am Here as a Mere Guest was created.
