The reader contains 36 lessons grouped into 6 thematic areas, which loosely relate to the thematic areas of introductory studies. Each thematic area is divided into two complementary circles of three lessons: home vs. abroad, health vs. illness, etc. The reader does not merely present a selection of suitable texts; it also offers supplementary questions, tasks for reflection, and interesting information, with more detailed work on the texts in the workbooks. The main goal of the authors is to awaken students' interest in texts, especially in beautiful as well as factual literature appropriate for their age. The reader also develops students' techniques for both loud and silent reading and the skill of reading with understanding, i.e., finding necessary information in the texts, interpreting messages, and possibly evaluating the texts and their messages. A significant portion of the follow-up tasks and exercises focuses on understanding, interpretation, and evaluation. Secondarily, the reader contributes to comprehensive education, specifically to the development of competencies beyond communication skills. Notably, the reader contributes to environmental, civic, informational, and media education. Media topics are addressed in separate chapters, but attention to media is also present in other chapters throughout the book.
