Beschreibung
References to Swiza are often found in ethnographic collections of the spiritual culture of Šumava.
It is a being that has appeared in Šumava since time immemorial. Sometimes in the form of a young, beautiful girl, other times as a demonic woman or a wrinkled old woman. It provokes, terrifies, heals, bestows, destroys, and turns a person to stone. Unpredictable, cold, mysterious. It sometimes appears as a phantom that dissolves in the first rays of sunlight as it rises over the Šumava hills and sometimes as a real and tangible being whose touch can heal or kill. It protects Šumava – not for the quantity of precious metals hidden underground, but for the life in the forests and rivers, for the uniqueness of the creatures that live here.
