Osudy ze šumavských chalup – Voldřich Jan (2022)

The publication follows the author's debut "Stories from the Chalets of Šumava," dedicated to describing the history of settlement in Šumava and the regions of Stašsko and Zdíkovsko, the description of former agricultural work on the slopes of Šumava, and the life stories of former inhabitants of Stašsko and Zdíkovsko. This author's next publication introduces readers to the fates of former residents of the chalets in the settlements of Zadov and Churáňov, which are part of the municipality of Stachy. The introductory section describes the history of the settlement of both villages, including the origin of the designation of homesteads as "after the chalet," most of which are still alive or known. The following section describes the captivating fates of former residents of individual chalets in the historical part of Zadov and Churáňov according to the stable cadastre of the municipality of Stachy from 1837, looking into their destinies from the second half of the nineteenth century to the present. From the reading, one gets an idea of how the area was settled by individual families in separate courtyards, how additional buildings were constructed around the original houses for the descendants of the original settlers, and how familial ties and bonds developed.
