Krajem šumavských Lad – Petráš Karel (2019)

A book about the history, nature, and people of the Šumava region of Lada. Dear readers, we invite you on a journey that will not be too long, yet will lead you through both the past and present. The area, our home, a small part of our homeland, which we will recount, is just a tiny section of the Šumava between Vimperk and Kvilda. We will guide you through the land of 'Lada' with the poetic names of settlements such as Borová, Hrabická, Pravětínská, Černá, Svinná, and Švajglova. This epithet attached to the names of the municipalities is pleasant and very pleasing to our ears. However, if you consult an educational dictionary, the word 'lada' points to a poor region, with land of modest vegetation and a multitude of heaths and bogs. The original German name of the municipalities with the additions HAIDEN, which means heath, already expressed the poverty of this territory at that time. It is also necessary at the beginning of our narrative to mention that this area was until 1945 predominantly inhabited by people of German nationality. Therefore, in our storytelling, the original German names of places will also be used. One more addition at the outset is important. Until the end of World War II in 1945, the parish and administrative municipality of this area was Nový Svět (Neugebäu). Today, the administrative municipality of the entire extensive area is Borová Lada (Ferchehaid). It is located at an altitude of 901 m above sea level.
