I looked around the alley, but no one else was here besides the three of us. "The chopping block" came to my mind at that incredible sight, and I saw that the kneeling man had his head resting on that large block and that both of his hands were tied to it. The whole spectacle of shadow and fog was strangely translucent, evoking a motionless horror that paralyzed my entire body. A strong chill settled at the nape of my neck and began to timidly seep through my veins all over my body. I felt my whole body stiffening. My legs merged with the street and suddenly became a part of it. I couldn't move from the spot, let alone take a single step. I felt a strong fear, and the first drop of cold sweat appeared on my forehead. I stared in disbelief at the unbelievable spectacle unfolding before me.
