The Czech Republic is rich in natural beauty and remarkable sights. A significant part of this is contributed by the diversity of the terrain in our country. We have mountains, highlands, hills, foothills, lowlands, plateaus, basins, furrows, tables, depressions, valleys, gates, and intermountain areas. All of these are names of ninety-three defined geomorphological units, starting from the Czech Forest and ending with the Lower Moravian Basin. In the book, each unit is first introduced with its basic characteristics. Then, attention is given to specific relief features. These are places worth a separate outing, trip, or excursion. The majority of them belong to rock formations: isolated towers, cliffs, stone seas, giant boulders, balancing rocks, and so on; the pinnacle form is represented by sandstone rock cities. Very impressive are the cut valleys of rivers winding through entrenched meanders. An extraordinary contribution to the relief wealth comes from karst phenomena – canyons, chasms, sinkholes, and dolines. Other interesting features, such as waterfalls, sand dunes, or remnants of ancient gold panning, will not go unnoticed either.
