Erika Tomanová is a young woman who copes with the frustration of her third failed marriage through alcohol. One day, after an intensified marital argument, she leaves her husband and children. For the following days, the street becomes her new home, although she initially has no idea what such a life involves. When thieves rob her of everything on her very first day, she has to face the problem before her. Should she return home repentantly to her duties? That would require a different nature, however. She decides to remain on the street and make her way through life as best she can. She is not ashamed to support herself through prostitution and petty theft, completely overlooking all the associated risks. Readers are offered the chance to become part of Erika’s new way of life for a while, experiencing with her moments of wild inner happiness as she celebrates the amount of alcohol consumed in the company of equally reckless people. There is also a fall to the very bottom of society, when Erika’s life is literally at stake.
