In an era of restraint, pure unbridledness emerges! The most playful author from Bohemia, Moravia, and Silesia is back on the scene! Jaroslava Oválská is unashamed and unleashes post-poetic sparklers of unpredictable rhymes and little rhymes (mámo / ti amo, prala len / paralen, revoluci / po poluci, živý byl / v zemi hnil, hřebíky / vředíky, skřípe / v pípě…), exposes scars (being old, with worn-out senses / hanging here and there / on stretched skin like / cloudy gemstones) and poses enticing challenges (Be a strong chairman of the cooperatives / They never go anywhere).
I don’t know how these verses were created, whether Oválská's feminine self and Oválská's masculine self alternated after verses, stanzas, or entire poems; what is certain is that both selves experienced a joyfulness that is now disappearing everywhere like underground water and permafrost.
We witness this joyfulness, sometimes perfect, sometimes not at all, sometimes with understanding, sometimes not at all, but when we are patient, we feel something deep within us becoming joyful, gradually gaining the courage to hop around, and eventually, a quiet cheer emerges from us, then something bursts, and pure bliss warmly spreads within us.
