Beschreibung
The novel Midnight Rose depicts the fates of four generations, guiding the reader through the fairy-tale palaces of Indian maharajas and the magnificent estates of the English nobility, from the idyllic times of old-world orders before World War I to the hectic global society of modern times. Against the backdrop of history, it follows the remarkable life of the beautiful and intelligent Indian woman Anahita. Anahita comes from a noble but impoverished Indian family. In times when India was a British colony and everything British was the object of longing admiration, Anahita befriends the wealthy princess Indira, and as her companion, she accompanies her to England shortly before the outbreak of World War I, where both girls enroll in a girls' boarding school. There, Anahita meets the young Donald Astbury, the sole heir to the estate... Eighty years later, a young American actress arrives at the Astbury estate to shoot a historical film. To escape the prying eyes of the tabloids for a while, she takes up residence at the estate in the midst of the remote moors of Dartmoor. There, Anahita's great-grandson unexpectedly appears, searching for the past of his ancestors. Together, they begin to uncover the dark secrets of the Astbury family, which still hang like a curse over the life of their only living descendant...
