Company E of the 506th Parachute Infantry Regiment from Normandy to Hitler's Eagle's Nest. Band of Brothers presents the work of an outstanding historian on the remarkable company of the U.S. Army. In addition to its combat successes, which include excellent performances during the Normandy invasion, in the battles of the Ardennes, or in the Netherlands, Ambrose was particularly fascinated by the special bond among its members, which endured for decades after the war. "Among those veterans, there was such a close and intimate relationship that they remain a kind of brotherhood of the fearless to this day," he wrote after completing the book in 1991. Thus, the title is not only a detailed description of the training and battles of Company E from Normandy to the capture of Hitler's 'Eagle's Nest' in Berchtesgaden but also a probe into the interpersonal relationships of elite soldiers, a description of the formation of several 'life-and-death' friendships, and, last but not least, a view of the Western Front of World War II through the eyes of an ordinary American soldier.
