Beschreibung
Bookseller, poet, and prose writer Stanislav Struhar was born in 1964 in Gottwaldov, now Zlín. In 1988, he emigrated to Austria with his wife, and their son could only follow them after the fall of the Iron Curtain. He settled in Vienna, accepted Austrian citizenship, and German became his literary language. Stanislav Struhar has been engaged in poetry since his youth. He debuted in Austria with the Czech-German poetry collection Der alte Garten/Stará zahrada, which captures significant moments from the author's childhood and later emigration. In the following years, he primarily published prose books. In the Czech Republic, his early novels Rukopis and Opuštená zahrada were published, followed by the Czech translation of his already German-written novel Hledání štěstí. In his novels, the author searches for home and addresses the issue of a foreigner's integration into a new society. He has joined the small but intriguing family of German-speaking Czechs. His latest book Cizinky features two novellas that revolve around the author's favorite theme of living in a foreign country.
