Beschreibung
Conquistador Hernán Cortés, at the head of his small army, famously marches into the capital of the Aztecs, Tenochtitlán, where he is welcomed by Montezuma himself. Immediately, all involved begin to weave webs of intrigue, deception, and various traps, trying to outsmart and outmaneuver one another. Montezuma is preparing to kill the Spaniards, but Cortés gets the jump on him and takes him hostage. This effectively makes him the ruler of Mexico. Meanwhile, in Tenochtitlán, the Mexicans rise up and besiege the handful of Spaniards still holding Montezuma as a hostage. Cortés must quickly return, but even his reinforced army is besieged by Mexicans who have mobilized all their forces. Cortés thus stands against a several-hundredfold superiority. The so-called Sad Night occurs when he leads his army in retreat from Tenochtitlán, resulting in a horrific massacre.
