Beschreibung
When former anti-Nazi resistance hero and U.S. Ambassador to India Maximilian Ophuls is murdered on the doorstep of his daughter’s Los Angeles home, everything points to a political background to the act, perpetrated by Ophuls's personal driver "Clown Shalimar," a Muslim native of Kashmir. Despite Ophuls's significant role in the U.S. government's counter-terrorism activities, it turns out that the motives for the murder are purely personal: embodied by the fourth of the key characters, whose fate closely connects both men, along with the recent tragic history of Kashmir, is the key to the entire story. As in his previous books, in "Clown Shalimar," Rushdie leads a broadly arching narrative with characteristic sovereignty and linguistic inventiveness right to the very end of his "song of sorrow and hope," responding to the restless face of today's world.
