The textbook provides a range of stimuli and materials for independent work. It connects activating and creative methods with a sufficient offering of knowledge from the scientific disciplines concentrated in the subject of civic education. Guiding students to work with information, which they should be able to find in textbooks and available literature, connect with their own experiences, and draw conclusions from it, is valuable. The offer of independent work methods gives students a sense of the need for active participation in acquiring current information. This also allows them to defend their own opinions on issues of contemporary life in our society and to understand the meaning of citizenship in a democracy. The textbook explains a number of negative social phenomena from the area of social pathology (xenophobia, racism, bullying, aggression, child abuse, and neglect). The effort to connect the school environment with problematic situations of everyday life has led to the inclusion of techniques for making the right decisions when dealing with conflict situations in daily life – for example, positive reinforcement of the student's personality, practicing assertive behavior, ways to defend against aggression, and rejecting drugs and alcohol.
