This catechism is an attempt to summarize the Christian faith into meditative texts that invite the reader to contemplation. It aims to stimulate thinking about the fundamental and existential questions of life. Like a classic catechism, it is divided into questions and answers. The author, prominent German theologian Gerd Theissen, has tried to formulate each section so that it is understandable on its own and can be read independently if possible. These meditative texts are divided into lines, each carrying meaning. They resemble poems. Some emphasize imagery, others reflection, some aim to inform, while others also seek to criticize. They represent Protestantism, which understands the modern world as a challenge to express the Christian faith in new ways. Everywhere we must distinguish between traditional faith and what we find today as true and meaningful within it. In the most concise statements possible, I have tried to express what I consider to be the most important aspects of the Christian faith. I preferred agreement with myself over agreement with dogmas and churches. With such conviction, however, a Protestant does not find themselves on the margins of their church, but at its center.
