This Slovak-language novel follows successful writer Petra Rose, who faces a wave of criticism over the film adaptation of her novel. Branded a fraud hungry for fame, she experiences the full force of online humiliation. On the verge of a breakdown, Petra cannot write a single word, even though her publisher is waiting for a new manuscript. Hoping to save her career and reputation, she retreats to a secluded place where she hopes inspiration will finally return. Then he knocks on her door. Detective Nathaniel Saint brings disturbing news while also rekindling her creative spark. Words pour from Petra as she increasingly models the police officer in her novel on him, gradually erasing the boundary between fantasy and reality. Yet with every look and every touch, she comes closer to the edge. Saint takes his role far too seriously and becomes obsessed. He inspires Petra’s creativity, but at times he frightens her. What first appears to be excellent material for a book may slowly but surely lead to her downfall.
