This Slovak-language historical mystery begins in January 1663, when a local priest dies under dramatic circumstances near the Bavarian town of Schongau. He appears to have been poisoned, but before his death he directs attention to an ancient tomb discovered beneath his church. Physician Simon Fronwieser and executioner Jakob Kuisl find the remains of a Templar knight inside a huge sarcophagus, along with a riddle left by the dead priest for future generations. They are convinced that the mysterious inscriptions point to the legendary treasure of the Templar Order, which has been missing for centuries. Together with the herbalist Magdalena, the executioner’s daughter, and Benedikta, the dead priest’s sister, an educated and wealthy merchant, they set out to solve the mystery. But behind the first riddle lies a second, and behind that a third, while others are also eager to claim the legendary treasure. What is more, the black monk who murdered the priest has no scruples.
