This beautifully illustrated Slovak-language book is filled with fascinating facts about wolves. Their piercing howl can be heard from up to 16 kilometres away, but wolves are more than ordinary predators. A remarkable combination of teamwork and inborn instincts helps wolf packs survive even in difficult conditions. Together, a mother wolf and father wolf lead the pack while the pups grow up and learn the skills they will need when they eventually start families of their own. Richly illustrated with vivid artwork and interesting facts, the book is intended for older children who want to learn more about wolves and serves as a tribute to these majestic animals. June Smalls has lived in northern Virginia, USA, with her family and a constantly growing, varied community of animals. When she is not writing, she researches, visits zoos and aquariums, reads and tries to persuade her husband to make room for yet another animal. Jumi Šimokawara was born in Tokyo and studied illustration remotely at Kodansha Famous Schools in 2001, later specialising in wildlife drawing. Besides illustrating books, she also writes them and lives with a Java sparrow in Chiba, Japan.
