The story of the forgotten rivalry between Leonardo and Michelangelo takes place in Florence – in this amazing and prosperous city, the fates of two giants of Renaissance art cross paths for a time in the early 16th century. The charming fifty-year-old Leonardo da Vinci arrives here somewhat for personal reasons after twenty years spent in Milan, where he famously presented his Last Supper to the public. The young and at that time almost unknown Michelangelo returns to his native Florence from Rome, where his dreams came true when his statue of the Pieta was unveiled in St. Peter's Basilica, captivating even the Pope himself. After a while, they both have the opportunity in Florence to secure a commission for the processing of a marble monolith, which both desire. Leonardo is convinced that he has the stone secured, but the city officials ultimately prefer the temperamental Michelangelo. Leonardo struggles to bear his defeat and begins to publicly question his rival's proposals. But Michelangelo is also at his wits' end, desperately standing before a shapeless block of marble, unsure of how to begin. Until the stone speaks to him, and he starts to chisel furiously... Fate also intervenes in Leonardo's life – at the market, he sees a beautiful woman and agrees to the request of Mr. Gioconda to paint her portrait. Her name is...
