Beschreibung
The 1912 Olympic Games in Stockholm brought a number of historic firsts: the modern pentathlon and decathlon appeared in the programme for the first time, and artistic competitions were held there for the first time as well. Although the Czech athletes did not win a medal, tennis representative Ladislav Žemla received a special award for his “beautiful game”. It was after the Stockholm Games that the now universally known Olympic rings became a symbol of Olympism. Alongside the story of one Olympic Games, this nonfiction book also charts the turbulent years from 1909 to 1918, when the Austrian side sought to exclude the Czechs from the Olympic movement, and describes preparations for the 1916 Games in Berlin, which did not take place because of the First World War. The book is in Czech.
