The publication, which is part of the Pocket Nature series, brings interesting facts and detailed information about various day and night butterflies from across Europe. Butterflies belong to a vast order of insects that contains over one hundred sixty-five thousand species worldwide, with day butterflies making up only one hundred sixty-eight species, or just over six percent of the total range. Moths, as night butterflies are commonly referred to, are therefore significantly more numerous. Approximately three and a half thousand butterflies can be found in the Czech Republic, and this publication includes the most common and distinctive species.
