Beschreibung
Aviation has always represented an elite weapon, and fighters even more so. The first fighter planes appeared in the skies of the Western European battlefield as early as the summer of 1915, when single-seat machines equipped with forward-firing machine guns began to emerge. Fighters soon became surrounded by the aura of true modern knights, battling in the aerial arena, man against man, machine against machine. The reality, however, was much less romantic and, above all, much bloodier. This is all recounted in the book Gasoline, Blood, and Bullets, which chronicles the battles of fighter pilots during World War I on all fronts and up to the last days of the conflict.
