Beschreibung
The monograph about one of the oldest Czech noble families is intended for the general public interested in the history of nobility, history in general, and the history of castles and chateaus. The Kolowrat family produced dozens of significant personalities who made their mark in Czech and Central European history. Among them are, for example, Hanuš II. Libštejnský from Kolowrat, a soldier and later a clergyman who declared a papal interdict against King George of Poděbrady in 1469, the prominent politician of the Jagiellonian period Albrecht II. Libštejnský from Kolowrat, or the imperial envoy Franz Karl I. From the Krakowská branch of the Kolowrat family comes, for instance, the great patriot of the 19th century Count Hanuš or the well-known filmmaker, aviator, and motorist Count Saša. The legacy of the generous donors from the Kolowrat family can be found in the National Museum or the National Gallery. The Kolowrat collection of paintings is among the most valuable in our country. The Kolowrat family is associated with the castles of Krakovec, Libštejn, Krašov, or surprisingly even Karlštejn, as well as the chateaus of Rychnov nad Kněžnou, Velké Dvorce, Sloup, or Nový Hrad near Jimlín, and several palaces in Prague.
