Beschreibung
The Anabaptists represented a specific group in the social structure of early modern Moravia. Their religious and social nonconformity pushed them to the very margins of society, leading to fear of Anabaptists and their persecution. In pre-Battle of White Mountain Moravia, they managed to form a distinct community that, despite numerous concerns, encountered basic understanding and often acceptance. The integration and disintegration influences during the century-long presence of Anabaptists in Moravia were affected by a variety of actors: the nobility, the monarch, representatives of the Catholic Church, estate officials, the servant class of the manor, and other peasant populations. However, it was a mutual process – while Moravian society partially incorporated Anabaptists into its structures, influences from the surrounding environment penetrated among the Anabaptists due to increasingly intense interactions and contacts.
