Naše Hrabyň - Psáno Hrabyňákům, co přijdou po nás za sto let – Engliš Karel (2025)

Karel Engliš wrote the confession to his native village nearly ninety years ago. However, it is only now being published in its entirety as the author intended. Initially, the emerging communist regime prohibited him from publishing the book, and later the manuscript was hidden and stored in various archives. A part of it was published in 1999 under the title 'Hrabyň of My Youth.' Thanks to the efforts of Karel Engliš's family and other experts, the entire manuscript has gradually been concentrated, deciphered, and transcribed over the years, the accompanying images have been completed according to the author's notes, and everything has been prepared for a new edition. Readers can now delve into the unique and readable narrative of the native of Hrabyň, a significant scientist, economist, politician, and rector of Masaryk and Charles University, who spent his life in Hrabyň. The text is accompanied by watercolors and drawings created for the book by František Vrobel, as well as period photographs, drawings, and documents from Engliš's Memorial Books. The book is supplemented with memories from Engliš's contemporaries and rich explanations from historians. It thus forms a new valuable historical source and offers readers an experience expressed in the author's wish: 'I thought that if I write these memories, I preserve them so that others who come, even if faded, can experience them with me for centuries...'
