Narrative prose about youth has long been one of the most popular genres in children's and young adult literature. However, it has only sporadically come under the scrutiny of literary science. This monograph focuses on both the definition of the term narrative prose about youth and the development of the genre during a period of upheaval. The author captures the transformations of the genre in the Czech context from 1989 to the end of the first decade of the 21st century. She examines the developmental trends in books for teenage girls and boys, as well as the phenomenon of young adult fiction, which is increasingly influencing the domestic book market.
