Beschreibung
The cult of the originally Persian god Mithras, which spread across the territory of the Roman Empire after the turn of the era, represents one of the most interesting religious traditions of the ancient world. The atlas of locations and catalog of finds is a systematic contribution to the heuristic aspect of studying this cult. It provides an updated list of locations associated with the worship of Mithras and includes a brief description of the artifacts and objects that have been discovered at these sites. In addition to confirmed Mithraic finds, it also includes monuments of disputed nature or finds that have been excluded due to later research, thus updating the now considerably outdated Vermaseren corpus of Mithraic materials from the 1960s.
