Russian aggression against Ukraine, which began on February 24, 2022, has so far displaced approximately 7.5 million people from their homes, caused the loss of around 200,000 human lives, and inflicted material damage amounting to hundreds of billions of US dollars. This is the worst armed conflict in Europe since 1945. Masaryk University Press Munipress is publishing a book titled The Way from Russia, subtitled Russian Aggression Against Ukraine and Its Consequences, to mark the somber anniversary of this war. The book is released as the fourth volume in the 'Between Genres' series, and its author, Zdeněk Kříž, a professor at the Faculty of Social Studies at MU, presents the historical context of the Russo-Ukrainian conflict and analyzes the course of the war so far and the consequences of the Russian invasion. The introduction of the book focuses on the process of the dissolution of the Soviet Union, which is an important context for understanding the Russo-Ukrainian crisis. Subsequent chapters address the illegal annexation of Crimea and the outbreak of war in Donbas in 2014-2015, after which military reforms intensified on both the Russian and Ukrainian sides. A chapter dedicated to diplomacy on the eve of the war's outbreak precedes a detailed description of military operations during 2022, associated with extensive foreign aid to Ukraine.
