The book by ethnologist Joanna Maurer is published as the 27th volume of the Ethnological Studies series. The author has focused her attention on the issue of migration between the Czech Republic and Poland, neighboring countries that are geographically, culturally, and linguistically close, partially sharing their historical fate. Currently, they do not represent the most important mutual destination in terms of migration. Yet, after 2004, when both countries joined the European Union, they have become a temporary or permanent second home for several hundred young people, so-called white-collar workers, engaged in intellectual occupations, most often in international corporations, but also working at universities or as translators. Migrants engage in transnational practices, fulfill their needs, and play social roles in both their country of origin and the destination country. This is facilitated by the proximity of the countries and the opportunities offered by modern technologies, especially social networks and communication applications.
