Manžel a žízeň jsou věčné (2026)

Flavie and Hanuš are young and in love when they announce, before graduating from secondary school, that they want to get married. They ignore their parents’ objections that they still have years of university study ahead, believing they can both work while studying. Flavie takes a job at a law firm, while Hanuš works at a fish farm. They move into a house left by her grandfather and begin preparing for the wedding, but Flavie’s parents refuse to attend because they disapprove of her choice. She often remembers her father’s words when ordinary days bring the first troubles of marriage. Flavie and Hanuš soon discover that life is far from the way they imagined it, especially as she is the only one making an effort: she works full-time while studying, looks after the household and bears most of the responsibility for paying the bills. Hanuš manages neither school nor work, but happily spends evenings drinking beer with his friends. Matters worsen as alcohol makes him increasingly aggressive and his promises that they would face everything together begin to collapse. This novel is in Czech.
