Beschreibung
In this compelling Czech-language biographical novel, Monika Czernin follows the traces of her extraordinary great-aunt while vividly and historically accurately portraying the dramatic events at the turn of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. Born in 1888, Nora Kinská grows up in Bohemia and is raised according to the traditions of the high aristocracy. Her family expects her to take her proper place in society, but the young woman follows her own path. In the midst of the First World War, Nora travels to Siberia to help prisoners of war as a Red Cross nurse. What was originally planned as a stay of several months becomes a years-long experience marked by illness, hunger, cold and terror, but also a journey towards a new life.
