Oldřich of Chlum arrives with his squire Ota as one of the envoys of the Czech king to Znojmo, where negotiations for peace between the Moravian and Austrian nobility are taking place. Everything is pre-arranged, and it is merely a matter of publicly confirming the willingness for peace. The burgrave of Znojmo Castle therefore expects more of a courtly celebration than a sharp dispute among the envoys. However, the very next day, one of the young Czech nobles disappears. This is all the more concerning since his older brother had similarly vanished here four years earlier under equally mysterious circumstances. To top it all off, the spirit of the older brother appears right at the castle and then disappears into the mysterious catacombs that literally thread through the city underground.
