A dead tourist with a fractured skull is found at Lake Hafravatn near Reykjavik. It is clear that he was murdered. The police soon discover that he was a friend of a man who disappeared without a trace decades ago. When retired commissioner Konrád hears about this, he perks up and begins to investigate on his own. Along with the established connection between the murdered man and the case of the missing man from the seventies, his own past catches up with him. The longer Konrád delves into this case, the more memories of the Cold War atmosphere return to him, that vague feeling of anger and thinking in terms of good and evil...
