A gripping story from the late 1980s When Lada, a twenty-five-year-old neighbor of the Kozderks, hears a child's cry one day, she accuses her neighbor, a high-ranking official, of abuse. And then everything happens in quick succession. Lada's real hell begins. She is demoted at work, her personal life turns upside down, and she eventually ends up in prison. The second storyline is seen through the eyes of seven-year-old Alenka, the daughter of the Kozderks, who sees a princess in Lada. Alenka tries to be a good daughter, a model spark, and a good friend, just as Lada strives to defy fate. The stories of Lada and Alenka ultimately intersect in a thrilling finale.
