The first part of the four-part novel fresco about the lives of the last Přemyslid kings. The historical saga begins in the Czech principality, torn apart by family disputes, where the young Přemysl Otakar I. takes power. He gradually consolidates his power, gains foreign allies, and with the help of the emperor, obtains the royal crown. He comes into conflict with the church, is excommunicated by the bishop of Prague, but reaches a reconciliation with the church and militarily invades the Austrian lands. His political successes pave the way for the Czech kingdom among the European powers of the 13th century.
