The historical novel about the little-known conflict between Count Špork and the church is based on authentic sources, including court records from the heresy trial of 1729-1733. The famous Count Špork is generally perceived as a philanthropist, a patron of the arts, and a free thinker. He truly was all of these things, but he also had a number of bad traits that are not often discussed – he was headstrong, confrontational, and almost a "professional meddler." Jesuit Father Koniáš, on the other hand, entered history as a religious fanatic, a censor, and a book burner who did not shy away from denunciation. But is everything in the world so simple?
