Revolutionary changes after 1789 turned life upside down not only in France. Stefanie and Hermína, two sisters who had to flee the country after the French Revolution, struggled in vain to find asylum with relatives in Italy. Their difficult journey through Europe ends at a small estate in Bohemia, from where their great-grandfather originated. However, the situation here is not idyllic either. The sisters' lives are made difficult not only by their lack of language skills but especially by severed family ties and unresolved property issues. Finding a new home requires much more than mere goodwill...
