When nineteen-year-old René is sent by his mother to spend the summer being re-educated by his father, he cannot imagine a worse punishment. The frustration is not eased by having to spend the holidays on the stunning Normandy coast, until a mysterious English girl named Gale appears, first completely confusing him and then, one day, unexpectedly dying. A few years later, René manages to come to terms with the tragedy, helped by a newly discovered sense of purpose in painting. That is, until strange information begins reaching him. What really happened back then in the house with the window through which he watched the girl with the bird? Will he uncover the truth about the death of the girl he loved?
