The infamously notorious paramilitary formation – the Sudeten German Volunteer Corps – was formed and operated in the Czech-German border region during the dramatic autumn of 1938. The terrorist, sabotage, and diversionary actions of the Freikorps were intended, in conjunction with massive propaganda, to serve Hitler's foreign policy as a tool for influencing public opinion, intimidating the Czech population, and potentially pressuring the British and French governments. The book describes the organizational, personnel, and material aspects of the Freikorps, maps its most important operations, and introduces its main actors. A specific section details the activities of the Freikorps formations in Aš, which was occupied by the Nazis on September 21, 1938, with the direct participation of regular military units.
