The book describes a part of retributive justice, through which domestic post-war justice responded to crimes committed during the dark period of our history, defined by the decrees of President Edvard Beneš between May 21, 1938, and December 31, 1945. The core of the work is an analysis of the files of all criminals to whom the Extraordinary People's Courts in Plzeň and Klatovy imposed the death penalty, processed into condensed case studies and synthesized in the concluding chapters of the book. A total of 60 death sentences were proposed, but three criminals, all at the MLS in Plzeň, escaped punishment justly or unjustly. In the Czech lands, there were a total of 713 death sentences. During the writing of the work, the question arose to what extent Czechoslovak retributive justice managed to come to terms with the tragic period of our history, what positive and negative traits it had, and whether it can be compared with the results of Czechoslovak and Czech justice in later periods. In the conclusion of the book, the author hypothetically states that retributive justice, represented by the people's courts in Plzeň and Klatovy, despite all its mistakes and shortcomings, can be an inspiring example for modern justice, which has not dealt with the crimes of our past as the moral regeneration of the nation after the heavy...
